Use Avvo – it’s helpful!

My visitors often ask me questions that I can’t answer. Simply because I’m not a lawyer.

That’s why I strongly recommend everyone to use avvo.com. This website gives you a unique opportunity to ask U.S. licenced lawyers as many questions as you want without paying them a single penny. During my divorce process I used it around 20 times – saved me plenty of time and money. Usually lawyers respond the same day.

  1. Thank you for compiling this information. I’m the victim of marriage fraud, but what makes my story a bit different is that my marriage ended with physical abuse by the alien spouse. Next week, 10 months after the incident, the criminal case goes to trial and the divorce will soon be finalized. I’m putting my life back together step by step but do plan to move forward with reporting him. While I understand the outcomes are way beyond my control I don’t want to live knowing I didn’t take the time to pull together relevant information and deliver to proper authorities. Sending a letter can be potent therapy and I look forward to doing so.

You are spot on when you mention turning off emotions. I learned how to do this while advocating for my daughter with special needs and will utilize these skills once again.

I also suggest that anyone who is in this situation also consider reaching out to local agencies offering counseling for domestic violence as they specialize in treating the “trauma brain” that results from this level of betrayal. I found this helpful in addition to seeking out a qualified therapist.
